I kinda feel sorry for Prince Charles. All his life he’s been waiting to be King, but it means his mother has to die first. He’s already into his 60s, with the Queen showing no signs of slowing down. And top of that, popular opinion has shown that the public would rather bypass him as King and go straight to William!

A sad thought
by dgp inyesterday afternoon, the sad thought popped into my mind that, apparently, some witnesses could be made to believe anything provided it appears on the magazines.
if they said that accepting blood is now ok, many would take transfusions, and that would sort of make sense.
but if they also said that hell is a physical place after all, many would accept that, too.

Things in the past that show you that your doubts started earlier than you thought
by sabastious ini was just talking to my wife this morning about underlining or highlighting the wt paragraphs.. when i was 13 years old i would fight with my dad because i refused to highlight the answers.. the reason was because i wanted my comment to be genuine.
i felt that highlighting the "answer" made me lean on just using that as a crutch and not truly putting it in my own words.. i still hold that argument now, and i am 26. the only reason you would ever have to highlight something in a study book would be if you needed to remember it, maybe it is fairly complicated or subtle information that could be easily forgotten.. so many times in the wt the "question" has the same phrase that's in the paragraph!
it's literally like playing connect the dots.. so what i would do is not highlight during the family study.

I had many of the same experiences as EmergedAsMe.
The example of the Nazis was something that used to play on my mind a lot. It didn’t help that my Dad lived thru the Second World War so he used to go on about how the Jews were persecuted and we might have to go through the same thing, etc etc.

What books, songs, artists, movies, etc were banned in your JW home?
by serenitynow! inmy mother was very strict about entertainment.
in school i was doing a project about teen suicide and had checked out some books on suicide and abortion.
i had alot of explaining to do for that.

Yes, Fleetwood Mac was out because the female lead singer was a white witch.
And all forms of heavy metal music were considered demonised too.

I’m Australian so I have an Aussie accent.
However, I grew up watching English movies and tv, and my father who was half-English insisted that we spoke correctly, so I do have a bit of an English lilt to my accent. Here in Australia, it’s mistaken as a New Zealand accent, even though I’ve never been there!

Music – no ELO (something to do with Satanism), no Elton John (gay), no KISS (Satanism), Queen (gay)
No Dungeons and Dragons (Satanism)
When I was little mum would stand in front of the tv if anything “rude” came on.
BTW, “Physical” isn’t about working out at the gym. Check out the lyrics.

A question
by dgp inas a worldly, i realize that, if i were to say something about the watchtower, it would almost always be something that i learned from someone else.
i have few personal experiences of what the wt is like.. the words of ray franz, for example, were a different matter.
he knew the beast from inside, to a level few other witnesses knew it.

I agree with the rank-and-file stories being needed to be told.
When I first came online and googled “Jehovahs witnesses” it was the experiences of everyday people that really resonated with me. Too often we were lead to believe that the problems we had in the congregations were isolated occasions. But reading story after story, of situations that I could relate to, helped me realise that my doubts weren’t in vain. There were very big problems in “Jehovah’s organization” and that the love that they claimed set them apart from the rest of the world just wasn’t there.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT- CULTURE
by serenitynow! inso as not to hijack another thread i decided that a thread on culture could be useful.
i'd like to provide a safe place for people to talk about cultural norms or abnormals.
you don't want to learn that you've done or said the wrong thing by gettin' a fist in the face, know what i'm saying?.

You know, I think exJWs aka “apostates” are just as oppressed and dehumanised as black people were. Maybe it’s not at the same scale, but it’s a situation which many of us live with. Many lose family, jobs and even their lives due to being ostracised for being a nonJW. It happens to everyone that leaves in some way.
